Zodiak Broadcasting Station reporter Eamon Piringu has received a Special Mention Award at the Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (MESHA) Health and Climate Change Journalism Awards 2026 in Kenya.
Piringu received the award during a virtual ceremony held this morning.
His story, titled “Maize Under Siege: Fall Armyworms and Climate Shocks Threaten Malawi’s Food Security,” earned him the recognition.
In his remarks, Piringu expressed excitement over the award, describing it as a step in the right direction in his journalism career.
“I am excited and grateful to receive this recognition. This award is a step in the right direction for me as a journalist, and it motivates me to continue telling impactful stories on issues affecting communities, particularly climate change, food security and agriculture.”
The MESHA Health and Climate Change Journalism Awards are held annually to recognise journalists producing impactful stories on environment, climate change, gender, health and agriculture-related issues across Africa.
The awards also seek to promote quality journalism that raises public awareness and stimulates informed discussions on environmental, health, agricultural and climate change challenges affecting communities across the continent.
Through the awards, MESHA recognises journalists who use their work to highlight critical issues, amplify community voices and contribute to solutions to some of Africa’s pressing development challenges.
