The Road Safety Alert Foundation (ROSAF) says it has intensified nationwide awareness campaigns aimed at reducing road accidents during the festive season.
ROSAF Executive Director Joel Jere noted that as the festive period approaches, the country often records a spike in road accidents, including car and motorcycle crashes, some of which result in loss of life.
Jere said the organisation is working closely with key stakeholders such as the Malawi Police Service and the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services to roll out awareness campaigns designed to curb accidents on the country’s roads.
“We are not doing this on our own. We are collaborating with others like the Police and the Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services to ensure accidents are reduced,” Jere said.
Meanwhile, MACOKASA Chairperson Moses Mwalabu has welcomed the initiative, saying it will equip kabaza operators with essential road-traffic knowledge.
“This is a good initiative because motorcycle operators will learn how to ride properly, as most accidents are caused by them,” Mwalabu said.
ROSAF has since urged all road users to participate in the campaigns if the country is to record fewer or no accidents this festive season.
