The Islamic Health Association of Malawi (IHAM) has signed five Service Level Agreement (SLA) contracts with the government, marking a significant step in the delivery of healthcare services.
IHAM's Administration and Communications Officer, Hajira Halilu, told Zodiak Online on Wednesday that the agreements cover the provision of medical assistance to pregnant women and children under five years of age at IHAM facilities.
According to Halilu, the government has already supervised 10 health facilities, with approvals still pending.
"Of the five facilities that have signed SLA contracts with the government, four are in Mangochi and one is in Blantyre. We are optimistic that the remaining 10 facilities will also be approved," said Halilu.
She added that IHAM remains committed to providing quality healthcare services, particularly in areas lacking public health facilities.
Malawi Health Equity Network Executive Director George Jobe described the development as a milestone in improving access to quality healthcare services.
"Previously, only the Christian Health Association of Malawi (CHAM) had the opportunity to sign such contracts. This is a welcome development for those living in areas served by IHAM facilities, as they will now benefit from these agreements," said Jobe.
Established in 2022, IHAM operates 22 health facilities and one training institution.
