NEEF Offices Sealed

There is a heavy police presence at the National Economic Empowerment Fund (NEEF) head office in Lilongwe, in what law enforcement officials describe as part of broader efforts to safeguard public resources during the ongoing power transition.

A well-placed senior police officer at Police Headquarters, told Zodiak Online that the move follows reports of suspicious activity involving individuals seen at the premises during odd hours—raising concerns about potential threats to public funds.

In an interview on Tuesday, the officer confirmed that the offices have been temporarily sealed.

“Our patrol teams spotted people conducting business at the NEEF office at night. We had to act swiftly as a precautionary measure to protect public funds,” the source explained.

The official also dismissed rumours suggesting that some NEEF employees had been dismissed.

“Staff have simply been asked to stay home temporarily. They are expected to return to work by Monday next week, once the new government is fully in place,” the officer clarified.

A visit to another NEEF office located in Area 6 revealed armed police officers stationed at the gate. They confirmed their deployment to the premises on Sunday but directed us to their superiors for further comment.

The same heightened security measures, according to the source, have also been extended to other key government institutions, including Capital Hill and the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA).
