The Look-sharp project by Tivekeni Initiative has embarked on a digital literacy training program expected to reach 1,000 in and out of school youths from the Sharpevale area in Ntcheu by 2025.
The initiative’s director, Elias Matope, told Zodiak Online on Saturday, after training 176 youths, that in this digital era, the use of computers, mobile phones, and the internet is crucial for aiding Malawi's 2063 development vision.
“We are in the information era where technology-driven living is crucial for transforming the economy and society,” he said.
Matope added that, apart from digital literacy, the project also focuses on environmental conservation and child protection.
One of the participants, Cassim Liwonde, a Form Four student at Sharpevale Community Day Secondary School, said the knowledge gained is timely.
“Digital tools provide opportunities beyond the classroom,” he said, adding that the knowledge gained will increase access to information on any topic related to education.
Tivekeni Initiative supports vulnerable school-going children in Ntcheu by providing essential resources like clothes and shoes, alongside empowering communities economically.
