Farmers in Lilongwe have successfully mobilized MK7 billion under the Resource Mobilization Initiative, a program driven by the District Agricultural Extension Coordinating Committee (DAECC) in collaboration with key stakeholders such as One Acre Fund.
The initiative is designed to provide farmers with access to improved farm inputs while protecting them from purchasing counterfeit products that undermine productivity and food security.
Building on this partnership, One Acre Fund has played an important role by supporting over 750,000 farmers across the country and 175, 000 are yet to benefit with 20,000 from Lilongwe district.
The organisation has focused on improving soil fertility through sustainable farming practices, offering hands-on training in modern agricultural techniques, and distributing high-quality seeds and fertilizer.
Speaking during the launch of the Farm Inputs Distribution in Lilongwe, Lovemore Mtsitsi, the Government Relations Manager for One Acre Fund, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to working hand in hand with the government and farming communities.
"We are committed to distribute agricultural inputs to farmers on credit which they will have to pay back for a period of 10 months and this we do to help farmers benefit from their agricultural activities," he added.
In her remarks at the same event, the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Roza Fatch Mbilizi, urged agro-dealers to complement these efforts by ensuring fair pricing for farmers.
“These farmers buy farm inputs in bulk, so it is important to sell the inputs at a wholesale price and not necessarily the retail price as a way of appreciating them,” she said.
The event was held under the theme of “Rekindling Self-Reliance Towards Food Security and Economic."
