Chipembere Community Development Organisation (CCDO) has rolled out a USD 50,000 project set to empower young people in Thyolo to demand better access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) information and services.
The Hivos-funded initiative, “Amplifying Adolescents and Young People’s Voices on SRHR Services,” targets rural communities in Inkosi Bvumbwe, Maganiza, Nchilamwera, and Chimaliro.
CCCDO Executive Director, Dalitso Chiwayula, said the project aims to address barriers that limit young people from accessing accurate and inclusive SRHR services.
He made the remarks Thursday after briefing stakeholders about the initiative.
“We want to build a generation of informed and confident young people who can make responsible health choices and advocate for their rights without fear or stigma,” said Chiwayula.
He added that CCCDO will work closely with schools, traditional leaders, and health providers to create safe spaces where adolescents can access youth-friendly information and services.
“Our focus is not just on awareness, but on ensuring that every young person feels seen, supported, and included in conversations about their health,” he explained.
The project will also target sex workers by equipping them with climate-smart livelihood skills, such as solar energy systems, tailoring, and computer literacy, to enhance their financial independence.
Thyolo District Planning Director, Thokozire Munthali, hailed the initiative, saying it complements the district’s efforts to reduce early pregnancies and school dropouts.
“Projects like this are critical because they reach young people where they are, in their communities, and empower them to make better life choices,” said Munthali.
