In a Post-Mother’s Day commemoration, a group of police officers’ wives and female officers from Thyolo Police Station have donated assorted items to children admitted to the children’s ward at Thyolo District Hospital.
The team, led by the wife of Thyolo Police Officer-in-Charge, Shawulai Zalingayani Jailosi, presented items including sugar, flour, and other basic necessities to support mothers whose children are receiving treatment at the facility.
Speaking during the donation on Friday, Shuwalai Zalingayani Jailosi said the gesture was part of their effort to share love and bring hope to mothers caring for sick children.
“We wanted to reach out and bring hope to mothers who are going through difficult moments while nursing their sick children. Apart from giving material support, we also shared the word of God to strengthen their faith,” she said.
She further encouraged women across the country not to wait for assistance during such commemorations but to take part in helping others who are struggling in their communities.
Jailosi added: "As women, we should not only be on the receiving end during special occasions. We must also go out and touch lives, especially where people are suffering."
Receiving the donation, Thyolo District Hospital Matron, Esmie Kamaliza, commended the group for the timely support, saying it would supplement the hospital’s food supplies.
“We are very grateful for this kind gesture. The donated items will help improve the nutritional support given to our patients,” Kamaliza said.
One of the guardians at the children’s ward, Ketrina Maheya, expressed gratitude for the donation, saying it had come at the right time.
“We are so thankful for this help. It will really make a difference for us and our children while we are here,” she said with a smile.
The donation forms part of the group’s annual outreach activities aimed at promoting compassion and community service among women in uniform and their spouses.
