Four companies, Standard Bank, National Bank of Malawi, NBS Bank and Chibuku Products Limited—have fired up preparations for this year’s Africa Day Commemorations with a combined donation of K22 million.
Standard Bank has made the largest contribution of K11 million, followed by National Bank of Malawi with K5.8 million, NBS Bank with K3.5 million and Chibuku Products Limited with K2 million.
Speaking on behalf of National Bank of Malawi, City Centre Service Centre Manager George Nyirenda expressed the bank’s excitement to be part of the celebrations.
“We are proud to be part of this momentous celebration as we do business with people from all corners of Africa,” said Nyirenda.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mwayiwawo Polepole, commended the companies for their generous support saying their contributions exemplify the unity and spirit of Africa.
“This is a true demonstration of African solidarity. The commemorations will highlight our cultural richness through traditional dances, music, sports, and exhibitions,” said Polepole.
The main celebration is set to take place at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where a variety of cultural activities will bring together Africans living in Malawi.
Representing the African Union, Mozambique’s High Commissioner to Malawi, Alexandere Manjate, emphasized the significance of the event.
“This celebration reflects Africa’s continued unity. I urge all Africans in Malawi to come together and participate in tomorrow’s commemorations,” said Manjate.
Africa Day, observed annually on May 25, celebrates the foundation of the Organisation of African Unity (now the African Union) and is a symbol of continental solidarity and cultural pride.
