MET Department Warns of Chiperoni Second Wave

Malawians should brace for extreme cold weather conditions following an announcement by the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services which has warned that the country will experience Chiperoni weather conditions starting from Monday next week 12th May.

This is the second wave of Chiperoni weather in the past three weeks.

Chief meteorologist in the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, Yobu Kachiwanda says the Chiperoni weather conditions will end on Thursday 15 May.

Kachiwanda says this will be coupled with rain showers in most parts of the country hence asking Malawians to exercise caution.

“Winter season is here now, and we expect Chiperoni to hit Malawi in the coming week. We anticipate another wave of Chiperoni characterized by chilly weather, rain drizzles and mwera winds on lake Malawi.

Meanwhile, health activists have taken advantage of the announcement to caution Malawians against laxity as threats of cold weather linked diseases are high.

Health activist, Sandra Mapemba has then tipped Malawians especially those with compromised health conditions and children to avoid being exposed to extreme weather conditions with threats of pneumonia higher.

“It will be hard for many people in the country to adjust to the weather conditions," she says.

George Jobe fears the risks of fire accidents would rise if no precaution measures are not undertaken.

Jobe has then asked parents and guardian to ensure children are protected.

This is happening as the country is currently transitioning into winter season.
