The Norwegian government has expressed commitment to continue supporting Malawi's key sectors focused on measurable results.
Ambassador for the Kingdom of Norway to Malawi, Anne Sofie Bjelland says her government targets areas of agriculture, health and social protection as key priorities in Malawi.
She made the commitment on Tuesday morning after an engagement with Malawi's vice president, Justice Dr. Jane Ansah at Capital Hill in Lilongwe where the Vice President, Justice Ansah said Norway has contributed to better maternal and child health outcomes amid strengthening health systems nationwide.
"Norway is a global leader in climate action and renewable energy. Through the recently launched Norwegian Guarantee Scheme for
Renewable Energy (December 2024), Norway aims to catalyse investments in developing countries. Malawi is eligible and already benefits from certain Norwegian investment mechanisms," she said.
Vice President Justice Dr Jane Ansah expressed gratitude for the recent signing of the bilateral grant agreement between the Governments of Malawi and Norway which she says guarantees vital support to the Health Services Joint Fund and food-security programmes.
She notes Malawi’s interest in deepening cooperation with Norway’s development institutions, including Norfund, to stimulate private sector investment in agro-processing, renewable energy, and youth
entrepreneurship.
Justice Ansah Mentioned the need for continued strengthening of institutional linkages between Malawian and Norwegian universities and research centres, particularly in climate-smart agriculture, energy innovation, and technology development.
"I want to reaffirm that His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, and the entire Government value the enduring friendship between Malawi and Norway," she noted.
Dr. Jane Ansah has been undertaking several engagements with Malawi's donor partners as part of commitment for a mutual understanding.
