WHO Offers Malawi 33,600 Doses of Mpox

Chikumbe; we are doing paperwork to receive the doses

The Ministry of Health says the World Health Organization (WHO) has offered Malawi 33,600 doses of Mpox vaccine as the country now records 68 cases with one Mpox related death.

Ministry spokesperson Adrian Chikumbe told Zodiak Online that the doses are an additional means of protecting the citizens from Mpox.

Chikumbe said the authorities are working on the paperwork for receiving the same.

"Minister of health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda has already accepted the offer. The authorities are doing paperwork to receive the doses," said Chikumbe.

He has since advised the public to always be vigilant to the preventive measures of Mpox.

Health rights activist Maziko Matemba hopes there will be no vaccine hesitancy among the citizenry once the doses arrive in the country.

"Vaccines are crucial for Malawi to ably contain the spread of the disease which is a viral contagious," said Matemba

Cumulatively, Malawi has recorded over 60 Mpox cases with one death since the first case was registered in Apirl this year, according to the Ministry of Health.
