The Youth Decide Campaign has challenged the country's youths to remain calm, peaceful and accept the results of the just-ended elections with maturity and dignity, arguing democracy has won.
Coordinator for the campaign, which constists of 48 youth-centered organizations, Mwandida Theu says young people need to demand accountability from the new government as the struggle for a better Malawi continues.
She says the country is standing at a low point as it faces a lot of challenges including high inflation and lack of job opportunities for young people.
"Elections are about more than tally sheets. They are about the collective trust of ordinary people who, despite hunger, fatigue, and frustration, lined up at polling stations because they still believe their voices matter," says They.
Speaking at a press briefing, Theu called on the President-elect, Professor Peter Mutharika to include young people of less than 35 in his appointments, adding that they will soon engaged Mutharika for him to endorse the youth manifesto.
"We anticipate to have a response soon," she noted.
