Chief Justice Rizine Mzikamanda says the judiciary is committed to partnering with youth groupings to enhance administration of justice in the country.
He said this in Lilongwe, during Youth Co-Creating Malawi's Future Conference which was organized by Youth Inspire Initiative to spark an intergenerational dialogue on issues centring on sustainable development.
Mzikamanda, who was the guest of honour, said the youth and the elderly are the finest resource the country has, stressing that the former are energetic while the latter have accumulative wisdom and experience.
"In terms of demographics the youth outnumber the elderly, but combining both the youth and the elderly, and putting our efforts together we can create a future that can work for all of us," he said.
The Chief Justice went on to state that the judiciary stands ready to work with youth groupings in various areas with intent to improve justice delivery in the courts.
Mzikamanda said the third arm of government already started making the partnership, citing a 2024 pact with the Youth and Society YAS, that focus on protecting and promoting civic space in the country.
He added. "There are many areas to partner, starting with jobs we need the youth in judiciary, and also thier views in policy formulation."
Reacting to this, Youth Inspire Initiative Vice Board Chairperson, Paul Kamlongera, termed the offer as an opportunity, saying they will continue with engagements to explore areas for possible partnerships.
"For too long, there have been conversations that generations are in conflict but differences between generations should be perceived as strength not conflict," he observed.
Answering questions during a panel discussion, High Court Judge Fiona Mwale, advised the younger generation to stop waiting for a sit at the table of the elder generations, but rather being thier own chair.
Esther Gomani, a participant, praised the conference emphasizing that she has learnt that attitude and knowledge gaps in some key areas like investments, have been robbing the youth readily available opportunities.
Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda, Director of Public Prosecution Masauko Chamkakala, and Musician Lawi were also in attendance.
