Ntchisi District Hospital Health Office has expressed deep concern over the deplorable state of the martenity wing at Kangolwa Health Centre.
The building, which has been condemned, poses a significant threat to both clients and service providers due to its huge cracks.
According to Frank Kaphaso, Health Promotions and Public Relations Officer, the martenity wing is in a dire state, emphasizing the need for immediate support from stakeholders to construct a new facility.
Kaphaso stressed that martenity services are vital, and the current situation is unacceptable.
Plans for a New Facility
Ntchisi District Council Chairperson Mark Mphezi Mtengo revealed that plans to construct a new martenity wing have been in place for two years. However, funding constraints have hindered progress.
Health Rights Activist Maziko Matemba suggested that the council should hand over the issue to the central government if it is unable to address the problem.
Matemba emphasized that a functional martenity wing is essential at each health center.
The Kangolwa Health Centre serves a population of over 4,000 in the area of Senior Chief Kasakula.
