About 30 students from Malowa Community Day Secondary School in Salima have received bursaries under the Luso Langa Community Foundation’s school bursary programme, which aims to promote education among learners from financially challenged backgrounds.
Speaking on Friday during the launch of the initiative at Chipoka in Traditional Authority Mdindi, the Foundation’s Programmes Director, Dineles Chikapa, said the organization is conducting a fundraising campaign targeting K7 million, of which K4.4 million has already been raised for the education fund.
“Our goal is to support hardworking students who demonstrate leadership potential but face financial difficulties. We want to ensure they remain in school and have a chance to achieve their dreams,” said Chikapa.
She added that the funds will support students from Muwona Primary School, Chipoka 1 Primary School, and Malowa CDSS as part of a pilot phase.
Malowa CDSS head teacher, Jonathan Mumba, commended the initiative, noting that many students at the school face financial challenges that threaten their education.
“These bursaries will help learners return to school and continue with their studies,” said Mumba.
He added that the support would ease the burden on families and motivate students to stay focused on their education.
One of the beneficiaries, Easter Mzunga, expressed gratitude, saying she had been struggling to pay school fees since last year and that the bursary had restored her hope of completing her education.
In addition to the bursaries, the Luso Langa Community Foundation also donated school uniforms to other students at the school.
