African Parks Majete has announced a K47.5 million funding package for five schools located around Majete Wildlife Reserve in Mwanza and Chikwawa districts, aimed at improving access to essential teaching and learning materials.
The funds will be distributed equally, with each school receiving K9.5 million. The beneficiary schools are Kachere, Kankhulungire, Mvivi, Kandeu, and Kambewe Primary Schools. The initiative is expected to enhance the quality of education by ensuring that both teachers and learners have adequate resources.
Majete Community Development Officer, Dixie Makwale, said the organization has observed that many schools lack basic learning materials, which negatively affects learners’ performance. In some cases, pupils struggle to succeed simply because they do not have access to proper teaching and learning resources.
He added that, beyond the financial support, African Parks will also promote female teachers by offering mentorship and other incentives to encourage them to work in remote schools. This is expected to inspire more girls to stay in school and perform well in their studies.
Meanwhile, Deputy Headteacher for Kachere Primary School, Madalitso Makondetsa, has commended the organization for its continued support toward education in the two districts.
She said that many learners, especially girls, drop out of school due to a lack of motivation and inadequate learning resources.
“Girls often lose interest in school because they have limited access to learning materials and lack proper encouragement. This support will help change that,” she said.
Through its education-focused initiatives, African Parks Majete has already constructed 13 school libraries, is currently paying school fees for 100 secondary school students and 25 university students, and has also built classrooms and teachers’ houses in surrounding communities.
