Lawyer Bob Chimkango Released on Court Bail

Private practice lawyer Bob Chimkango, who was arrested on allegations of abusing his public office, has been granted court bail.

According to the Senior Public Relations Officer for the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Egrita Ndala, Chimkango is required to provide a non-cash surety of one million kwacha.

Additional bail conditions include surrendering his travel documents, refraining from interfering with state witnesses, and reporting to ACB offices once a month.

Chimkango is accused of receiving approximately K7.4 million in fuel and subsistence allowances from the Malawi Housing Corporation (MHC), where he served as the Director of Administration and Corporate Affairs.

The payments were allegedly made for attending a court case that the ACB claims was unrelated to MHC's interests.
