A consortium of electoral stakeholders, Chisankho Watch, has announced plans to initiate dialogue among electoral players to ensure adherence to the court's determination on removing obstacles for citizens to acquire national IDs and register in the voters' roll.
The consortium’s coordinating executive director, Boniface Chibwana, told Zodiak Online on Monday that they will enhance roundtable dialogue with the MEC, NRB, and political parties to address issues hindering eligible voters from registering for the 2025 polls.
This follows last Friday's High Court determination that allowed the country's electoral body to continue using National IDs as the only identifier during the voter roll registration currently underway.
The court resolved the national ID controversy but directed the NRB to provide additional support, ensuring no eligible voter is disenfranchised due to lack of access.
"As a consortium of the 2025 electoral monitoring stakeholders, we will open dialogue among electoral players to ensure adherence to the court's determination," Chibwana said.
Meanwhile, the NRB stated it will comply with the order by urgently opening additional centers to assist Malawians who have not yet registered with the bureau.
In a statement, the bureau's principal secretary, Mphatso Sambo, reaffirmed compliance with the court order to ensure inclusion by registering eligible Malawians and issuing them unique IDs and proof of registration.
