Minister Unveils Midterm Austerity Budget
06 December 2024
The Eastern Region Football Association has announced its plans to organize a league consisting of twenty-four teams this year.
The competition will be structured into two divisions: the Premier Division, featuring twelve teams, and Division 1, which will also accommodate twelve teams.
As the new campaign approaches, Chairperson Abdul Rahman Chiwalo has revealed that two unnamed companies have already expressed interest in sponsoring a league that will cover the districts of Mangochi, Machinga, Zomba, Balaka, and Phalombe.
He emphasized the growing enthusiasm for football in the region, saying that approximately 60 percent of the region’s estimated 4 million population are young people who are passionate about the sport.
This, he believes, presents a significant opportunity for potential sponsors to invest in grassroots football development.
Meanwhile, Football Association of Malawi Executive Committee member Daud Mtanthiko has assured that the newly-established Eastern Region Football Association will receive essential resources and support to ensure smooth operations.
This includes capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and fostering the growth of football in the region.
