Organizers of the highly anticipated 2024 edition of the Misuku Motorhino Eco Rally, formerly known as the Misuku Hills and Forests Motorcycle Racing, have announced that preparations are in advanced stages.
The event, set to take place in Chitipa district, has garnered significant attention.
Motorhino Electric Motorcycles, the official sponsors, revealed through Country Director Barros Atupele Mweso that about 50 local participants will compete on a 48-km long racing track.
This year, participants will be racing on electric motorcycles.
"We anticipate around 50 racers this year, an increase from 27 racers in last year's event. Additionally, we will have a football bonanza and traditional dances to spice up the event," said Mweso.
Mweso emphasized that the rally aims to spread messages of environmental conservation. "The main reason for conducting this rally is to promote environmental conservation.
With global warming exacerbated by environmental degradation, we are here not only to market our electric motorcycle products but also to educate people on protecting the environment," he explained.
Introduced in 2023 by Chitipa District Council, the motorcycle racing competition is part of the council's reform initiative aimed at attracting tourists to Misuku Hills, known for its unique terrain and evergreen environment.
This year's rally is themed "Conserving Natural Forests to Create Worth through Tourism in Hard-to-Reach Areas."
Government and district council officials, along with other high-level individuals, are expected to attend the historic competition on Saturday, 26 October at Misuku in the district.
