A team of experts tasked with formulating the long-awaited CAF A Coaching Manual has completed the assignment and submitted the document to the Football Association of Malawi (FAM), which will now seek approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
One of the lead experts, Captain John Kaputa (Retired), confirmed the development, saying the manual incorporates advanced coaching methodologies aimed at equipping Malawian coaches with modern, practical knowledge.
“We conducted thorough research to ensure that the manual reflects current trends and best practices in football coaching,” said Captain Kaputa. “The goal is to empower local coaches with high-quality, up-to-date knowledge that meets international standards. Once approved, the rollout of the new CAF A Coaching Course is expected to begin next year.”
The task was carried out by a multidisciplinary team of experts drawn from academia and football circles. The group included Dr. Khumbo and Oscar Kanjala from the Malawi University of Science and Technology (MUST), as well as Peterkins Kaira, a member of FAM’s Technical Sub-Committee.
After months of intensive research and consultations, the team finalized the manual, which is expected to become a key tool in shaping the next generation of elite coaches in Malawi.
Meanwhile, the National Football Coaches Association has hailed the development as a timely breakthrough for the coaching fraternity.
“This is great news for us as coaches,” said Association Chairperson Aubrey Nankhumwa. “The CAF A Coaching Manual will help reduce the backlog of coaches currently waiting to acquire the CAF A license, and ensure that our training aligns with continental standards.”
The CAF A Coaching License is the second-highest African coaching qualification, recognized internationally, second only to the prestigious CAF Pro License.
