Kajomba Outlines Development Priorities for Thyolo Mangunda-Khonjeni

Kajomba after registration at the Parliament Building

Member of Parliament-Elect for Thyolo Mangunda-Khonjeni Constituency, Hastings Kajomba, has unveiled an ambitious plan aimed at transforming the area’s infrastructure, education, health, energy, and agricultural sectors.

Kajomba told Zodiak Online Saturday after registration at Parliament that his vision is to improve people’s living standards through tangible projects that respond directly to the needs of rural communities.

He said he will prioritize development projects that make a real difference in people’s lives—good roads, clean water, better schools, and access to electricity.

He cited the Thyolo–Khonjeni Road and Luchenza–Khonjeni–Masambanjati Road as some of the key infrastructure projects requiring urgent attention to enhance mobility and stimulate local trade.

“Once these roads are improved, farmers will easily transport their produce to markets, and communities will have better access to essential services,” Kajomba explained.

In addressing water woes, Kajomba pledged to champion the construction of boreholes and tapped water systems to ensure clean and safe water for all households.

He also highlighted irrigation farming as a key driver of food security and economic empowerment, saying his office will work with government and development partners to establish irrigation schemes in the constituency.

On education, Kajomba said there is a pressing need to increase the number of classroom blocks to accommodate the growing school population, while in the health sector, he plans to build more clinics and conduct mobile clinics to reach remote communities.

Kajomba further emphasized his commitment to expanding energy access by installing more solar systems and extending the national electricity grid to areas without power, particularly in Traditional Authority Ndalama.

He said: “Energy is the backbone of development. Once people have electricity, they can start small businesses and improve their livelihoods,” he noted.

He concluded by reaffirming his role as a voice for the poor and a unifying leader in Parliament who will support government policies that promote sustainable development.

“I want to be a mouthpiece for the poor, to encourage unity, and to support policies that will help develop Malawi,” Kajomba said.

According to Parliament, a total of 224 Members of Parliament-elect completed the registration exercise as of Sunday, 19 October 2025.

Among the Members of Parliament-elect who have already registered are Skeffa Chimoto of Nkhotakota Mkhula Constituency, Rhita Sanga of Mchinji West Constituency, Marium Ajida of Mulanje Pasani Constituency, Norman Chisale of Ntcheu Central Central East Constituency, Charles Mchacha of Thyolo Bvumbwe Masenjere Constituency, Hastings Kajomba of Thyolo Mangunda-Khonjeni Constituency, and Daud Chikwanje of Machinga Central East Constituency.
