In a bold campaign that could redefine the future of child rights in Malawi, the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has proposed sweeping legislative reforms aimed at explicitly outlawing corporal punishment of children both at home and in educational institutions.

As Malawians yearn for positive news amid a tough economic climate marked by soaring inflation, the World Bank has sounded the alarm on an impending debt crisis, warning of dire consequences if authorities continue their excessive borrowing.

The National Local Government Finance Committee-NLGFC said 15 out of 23 councils have refunded a fraction of the World Bank abused K1.3 billion funds, which they allegedly mismanaged between 2021 and 2023 financial years.
