Creck Sporting Club Suspends Kamwendo; Two Others After Poor Season Start

Joseph Kamwendo, suspended after a poor run of form

Creck Sporting Club has suspended head coach Joseph Kamwendo, along with first assistant coach Abel Mkandawire and strikers’ trainer Chiukepo Msowoya, following a disappointing start in the 2025 Super League season.

The club’s General Secretary, Aaron Kandiwo Mtaya, confirmed the development on Monday, saying that the suspension was necessary to assess the root causes of the team’s underperformance.

“We’ve decided to suspend the trio to allow for a comprehensive internal review. A meeting is scheduled for this Friday where we will engage them further to understand what has gone wrong and explore the way forward,” said Mtaya.

So far this season, Creck has played five matches, managing only one win, one draw, and three losses. The club’s form was further called into question after an early exit from the Airtel Top 8 at the hands of FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in the quarterfinals.

The decision has sparked debate in the football community, with sports analysts offering mixed reactions.

Christopher Njeula, a seasoned football commentator, believes the move was necessary but cautioned that deeper structural issues must also be addressed.

“From an investment point of view, it was a heavy investment getting in good players, but the results haven't been forthcoming. And if you look at the teams that Creck Sporting have lost against, you might wish to appreciate that maybe there is something wrong technically. So it's not a surprise that the club has taken a sweep on some of the technical panel crew.

"They are a serious club and they have invested a lot and such decisions are not strange in clubs that have actually invested a lot in their set-up,” Njeula said.

Meanwhile, analyst Henry Gome has questioned the timing of the suspensions, arguing that five games might not be a fair window to judge a new technical team.

“It appears that there are bigger problems than the technical panel. I mean, do they have quality players, do they have good administrators, and so on and so forth. So for me, I should say yes, much as the technical panel has been suspended or fired, but I think the team should also dig deeper to find the root causes because they cannot just be suspending, and firing coaches every season," said Gome.

Mtaya also admitted that the club had set out to finish higher on the log table than last season’s sixth position, but current form has cast doubt on that goal.

“We had ambitions of improving our standing from last season, but if this form continues, we might not get there,” he said.

In the meantime, Creck Sporting Club has appointed second assistant coach Harry Saidi as interim head coach until a permanent solution is found.
