The Surveyors Institute of Malawi (SIM) has announced that its 2026 Mid-Year Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Conference will be held from May 20–21 May in Lilongwe.
Themed “Strengthening Governance and Sustainable Public-Private Sector Development: A Surveyors and Built Environment Perspective,” the event will focuso the role of human capital development in advancing the country’s long-term development vision, Malawi 2063.
In a statement, SIM Secretary General Precious Chisi emphasized the urgency of professional growth in the built environment sector.
“Malawi 2063 recognizes human capital as the engine of transformation. CPD is how we sharpen that engine.
“We are living in a moment where the demand for integrity, technical excellence, and cross-sector collaboration is at its peak. The built environment must respond decisively,” he said.
The gathering will bring together professionals in land management, valuation, construction, and infrastructure development.
According to SIM, these disciplines are central to effective land governance, project delivery, and economic growth.
Chisi noted that human capital is not only about technical skills but also about integrity, accountability, and collaboration.
“Our CPD programme is designed to strengthen these attributes so that professionals can contribute meaningfully to Malawi’s long-term development goals,” he added.
A high profile lineup of speakers is expected, including Mercy Kumbatira, Executive Director Corporate Services at the Reserve Bank of Malawi, who will deliver the keynote address.
Other speakers include Justice Dr. Chifundo Kachale, President of the Commercial Division of the High Court of Malawi; Tshifhiwa Matodzi, a Plant and Machinery Valuer from South Africa; and Masida Mbano, Director of Land Information Systems in the Ministry of Lands.
Chisi stressed that strong governance and credible dispute resolution mechanisms are vital for sustainable development.
“They build trust between the public and private sectors and ensure that progress is both inclusive and enduring,” he said.
Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Chimwemwe Chipungu is expected to preside over the conference as the guest of honor.
