Malawi Congress Party (MCP) First Vice President, Catherine Gotani Hara, has urged people in Chitipa to register in large numbers in the ongoing voter registration exercise in the district to vote in the September 2025 general elections.
Gotani Hara made the appeal on Wednesday during a whistle-stop tour she conducted with Kezzie Msukwa, the party chairperson for the North-North region.
Hara emphasized that if people in Chitipa want to have a voice and a chance to choose the next president, they need to register now and participate in the voting exercise next year.
"We visited several areas with one message: to encourage people in Chitipa to register so they can vote in next year's elections," Hara said.
The MCP Veep condemned those who do not participate in voting, stating that their failure to vote puts undesirable people into positions.
"There are others who do not vote," she said, adding, "If you don't vote, it means you have decided to put a person you do not desire into that position. Therefore, every eligible voter needs to register and take part in voting next year."
Senior Chief Mwaulambya encouraged his subjects to raise more awareness about the need to register with the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
"My appeal to chiefs in my area is to continue raising awareness so that every eligible person goes to register for the votes," the Senior Chief said.
MCP Chairperson for the North-North region, Kezzie Msukwa, assured party followers and people in the district of the government's commitment to developing the district, stating that the current leadership of President Lazarus Chakwera is implementing developmental projects in all districts across the country.
During the whistle-stop tour, Hara visited areas such as Kapoka, Lufita, Chitipa Boma, Kafora, Mwamkwumbwa, and Ngoya, among others, with messages encouraging eligible voters to register for the forthcoming elections.
MEC is currently conducting a voter registration exercise in Chitipa aimed at registering prospective voters eligible to participate in next year's general elections.
The 14-day exercise, which began on 21 October, will run until 3 November.
