The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has launched a fierce attack on the government’s 8.598 trillion-kwacha mid-year budget review, branding it “catastrophic” and “retrogressive,” and warning that it will immediately worsen the cost of living and cripple an already fragile economy.

Former Malawi president Dr Lazarus Chakwera has been appointed by the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon. Shirley Botchwey, as her Special Envoy to Tanzania, following post-election violence that has claimed multiple lives and raised political tensions.
Former president Lazarus Chakwera has vowed to continue leading the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and to steer it back into power in 2030.
The Center for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) and the Lost History Foundation have this morning petitioned Parliament to start conducting its deliberations in local languages, particularly Chichewa.
