FCB Nyasa Big Bullets completed a league double over Silver Strikers in the TNM Super League after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 victory at Kamuzu Stadium on Sunday.
The Bankers stunned the home crowd when new signing Andrew Joseph opened the scoring, but the defending champions responded swiftly through substitutes Ephraim Kondowe and Hassan Kajoke, who scored from the penalty spot, sealing a vital win that keeps them at the summit of the table.
Bullets now sit on 46 points from 19 matches, three clear of their archrivals Mighty Wanderers, who also claimed victory in Dedza.
“It was a tough game, but I’m proud of how the boys reacted after going down,” said Bullets coach Peter Mponda. “We showed character and fighting spirit, and that is what champions are made of. I still feel Wanderers and Silver Strikers are strong favourites to win the title but we are also in the mix."
Silver Strikers, who also lost 1-0 to the People’s Team in the first round in Lilongwe, were left frustrated despite a spirited display.
“My players gave everything, but I am disappointed with the officiating today,” lamented Silver coach Peter Mgangira. “The result does not reflect the way we played. We deserved more from this match.”
The result means Bullets have now beaten Silver Strikers home and away, underlining their dominance in this season’s title race.
