Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) has issued a heartfelt appeal to institutions and individuals for assistance with various supplies and equipment, emphasizing that as a national referral hospital, its needs are perpetually immense.
The call for support comes in the wake of a significant donation of equipment and supplies valued at K15 million, presented to the hospital by Ufulu Finance Limited for the paediatric diabetes clinic.
This contribution aims to enhance the management of diabetes among children.
Dr. Amos Msekandiwana, Director General of KCH, expressed his gratitude, stating that the supplies have arrived at a critical juncture.
They will be instrumental in facilitating essential services such as diabetic education, blood pressure monitoring, and the measurement of children's weight and height, all vital components for effective diabetes management.
Dr. Msekandiwana underscored the importance of these regular health checks, as they enable the clinic to tailor appropriate treatment plans and medication dosages for young patients.
"We are receiving these supplies as a result of the experience of one of the guardians of diabetic children. After attending our clinics, she identified a gap and took it upon herself to mobilize resources to fill it. This is what we call patriotism."
Dr. Msekandiwana urged the public to shift from mere criticism when identifying problems to actively seeking solutions.
He said, collaborative efforts are key and effective in addressing the challenges faced by the hospital, rather than finger-pointing
"When we were starting this clinic, there was a lot of doubt, but now we have numerous testimonies thanks to a few dedicated individuals.
"We now view this as a service, not just work; as a clinic, we treat our patients like family. This approach has proven to be magical and has helped build trust among the community, and this donation is one of the fruits of that trust," he said.
