Hundreds of Lions from across Southern Africa are set to converge in Salima from May 7 to 10 for this year’s Lions Club International Multidistrict Convention.
The gathering will draw around 300 delegates from District 412B (Malawi and Mozambique), District 412A (Zimbabwe and Botswana), and neighboring Zambia, making it one of the largest regional meetings of Lions in recent years.
Past Governor of District 412B, Lion Stewart Munthali, said the convention is more than a meeting, it is a platform to grow membership, strengthen clubs, and boost Malawi’s tourism and business sectors.
“We expect to gain new knowledge and skills that will help us serve our communities better,” he noted.
One highlight will be training sessions led by a Zambian expert, whose travel has been facilitated by Malawian Airlines.
The airline has also pledged its support through community outreach, with Sales Expert Ntisunge Chinthenga emphasizing their commitment to initiatives that change lives, especially in education.
This year’s convention carries a budget of K113 million, with a shortfall of about K15 million still to be met. To help bridge that gap, Lions Club District 412B has received two air tickets from Malawian Airlines.
One will cover the trainer’s flight from Lusaka, while the other — a return ticket to Johannesburg — will be auctioned to raise an estimated K5 million.
The proceeds will go directly to supporting children with visual impairments and childhood cancer at Salima LEA School.
